Your narrative is right on, though you might have gotten more historical information if you had a guide with you. The small steps were meant for the gods - this means the angkor temples were built for the gods and not for man. Bayon, Ta Phrom and Banteay Srei are other notable temples to visit. =) Nice work. I went to Brunei as part of a high school education trip for the Hari Raya Puasa. Apparently, they open the Palace doors for three days and hold lavish feasts and give out gifts to visitors. I got to shake the hand of the entire royal family. One of them had shingles so when I got back, I developed chicken pox. ROYAL CHICKEN POX! hehe slightly OT: I also saw the Sultan before!
