Puerto Princesa: Mangrove Beach and Microtel Palawan Resort

Microtel for many years have already established their brand. “It’s the same hotel where ever you go” as their slogan says. For the regular patrons, this is a good thing. They really do have one of the most comfortable chiropractic beds around and the familiar interiors would make it easier for guest to feel at home. While they do have a template for their hotels, they do make adjustments on their resort-type hotels. Like their Boracay branch, Microtel made adjustments to their beach front hotel in Puerto Princesa, Emerald Playa Beach and Nature Park.

Out of Town
It’s a good thing Microtel has van service to pick-up and send-off guest to the airport because the Hotel is way out of town. It’s at least 20 minutes from the airport. Its seclusion is both good as the guest can enjoy exclusivity of the amenities and peace and quiet but then again it’s far from the city. Fortunately they have a regular van service going to the city and back at the resort for free. We just got in touch with the driver and tell him our location at the time they are scheduled to pick-up passengers.

Mangrove Beach
The mangrove beach is really scenic, but the water near the resort is shallow. In the 2 times I’ve been here, I haven’t tried swimming there. Maybe because I had to walk further for that deeper dip. This type of beach is best seen from a far and to laze around. The mangroves do add the picturesque quality, just watch out for the sand mites. They do have a nice pool and volleyball court for some beach activity.

Trademark Rooms
As expected, the familiar room design and beds are there. For the beach front rooms, there’s a veranda for the sea view. Every room also has mosquito repellent lotions in case you find yourself too close to the mangroves. There is no refrigerator to store food inside the rooms. I suggest a sealed container for food and snacks because ants can quickly find their way to your food.

Facilities
WIFI is available in-room for a fee, there’s free WIFI at the lobby along with water and free-flowing coffee. Towels are also available at the lobby for pool use. Guest looking for tours can book through the resort as well.

Pool Side Dining
Their Bar and Restaurant is located by the pool. The breakfast buffet which comes included in the package is good, with lots of options. Though you have to line up in the morning at the lobby for the breakfast stubs. Their entrees and snacks are priced above average but it’s quite tasty and the servings are large. I especially liked their burgers and sandwiches a lot.

Microtel Palawan
With rooms priced starting at P2900+ for 2 pax and 1 child, Microtel is somewhat in the mid-range class. Not exactly cheap but not priced too high either. The second time I went here, my sister paid for our 2 adjoining rooms good for the four of us, which I thought was reasonable enough considering the comfort and kind of facilities they offer. It has comfortable room, good facility and service and the views is wonderful and relaxing.
