The Company you Keep

You know what!! I think there are signs telling you, you are on the right direction. Just when I was evaluating the people around me. Making decisions on who’s company I should keep, I read this nice article. Thanks to Chino of the “Wannabes” :

It Is Better To Be Alone, Than In The Wrong Company

Tell me who your best friends are, and I will tell you who you are.
If you run with wolves, you will learn how to howl. But, if you associate with eagles, you will learn how to soar to great heights. “A mirror reflects a man’s face, but what he is really like is shown by the kind of friends hechooses.” The simple but true fact of life is that you become like those with whom you closely associate - for the good and the bad.

The less you associate with some people, the more your life will
improve. Any time you tolerate mediocrity in others, it increases your
mediocrity. An important attribute in successful people is their impatience with negative thinking and negative acting people. As you grow, your associates will change. Some of your friends will not want you to go on. They will want you to stay where they are. Friends that don’t help you climb will want you to crawl. Your friends will stretch your vision or choke your dream. Those that don’t increase you will eventually decrease you.

Consider this:

· Never receive counsel from unproductive people.
· Never discuss your problems with someone incapable of
contributing to the solution, because those who never succeed
themselves are always first to tell you how. Not everyone has a
right to speak into your life. You are certain to get the worst of
the bargain when you exchange ideas with the wrong person.
· Don’t follow anyone who’s not going anywhere. With some
people you spend an evening: with others you invest it.
· Be careful where you stop to inquire for directions along
the road of life.
· Wise is the person who fortifies his life with the right
friendships.

Happy moments? Praise God
Difficult moments? Seek God
Quiet moments? Worship God
Painful moments? Trust God
Every moment? Thank God

If you see people without a smile today … Give them one of yours.

Yap, dude….a good post, indeed. Factors that mold the character of individuals are the influences that sorrounds them…..that includes their friends….. “avoid being the best among the worst but be the worst among the best”

Just wanted to say how selfish that saying is!
The ideology is that everyone must associate themselves with someone better… well, if that someone IS better than you, why are they associating with you? They should leave you for someone better, right? If this is true, no one will ever have any friends! This type of thinking keeps the “best” best and the “worst” even worse!
We should be finding ways of helping those that aren’t “as good as us” become better, lifting people up not pulling ourselves up! That way everyone improves! This kind of propaganda causes people to be stuck up, arrogant, self-centered narcissists instead of kind, caring, concerned, spirits!
    Just my two cents!

I am spiritual, but not very religious and don’t usually refer to the Bible… but think of Jesus Christ? With whom did he associate himself with? “The Best”… NOOOOO… the worst! The sick, the lame, the posessed, etc! Because he loved people more than himself! Hmmmmm….

  6. i dont agree Says:

I dont agree with your entry. I agree completely with the whole - you become like the company you keep - part.
But you go on to say that the less you assosiate with people the more your life will improve.
Then what shocked me even more was you went on to talk about God… which makes me a little confused.
Jesus went around ministering the gospel to tax collectors, prostitutes, priests, normal people, he even healed and perforned miracles - TO PPL
His last commandment to us - GO INTO all the worl and make disciples of all nations…
how are you supposed to do that if you dun assosiate with people?
How can a pastor run a church and get people saved if he/she is not pastoral? being pastoral means associating with people.
You and I are not even worthy for God to even look at us, but he sent his son to come to earth and save us from death and so that we can have a relationship with God- but then according to you It is better for God not to assosiate with people…
So what sort of God and are u talking about here? and what source are you getting your argument? Cos it’ snot a good one.
