A village amidst the terraces

A village amidst the terraces

I didn’t manage to go around the village that much since we only have a limited time. But I did manage to take a peek into their daily life. Let’s take a look.

An ifugao kid

An Ifugao kid

What I like about this village is that it isn’t commercialized or touristy. Unlike Batad, the kids here don’t ask you fo money or candies whenever you pass by. I hope it stays that way.

Playing Chinese Garter

Playing Chinese Garter

At the age of technology, it’s refreshing to see kids play outdoor games like this. Kids nowadays spend too much time with computer games and consoles. In Manila I rarely see kids playing tags, Chinese garter, tumbang preso, langit lupa etc.

Pounding Rice

Pounding Rice

Harvesting rice is the main livelihood of these people. Also they have to make rice for themselves.

Faithful Dog

Faithful Dog

A constant human companion. A dog guarding the firewoods.

Peeking through the back

Peeking through the back

These people have beautiful almond eyes. And this kid was too shy to show it.

This is someplace that I’d like to visit one day.

    (:

I love the photo of the Ifugao kid.

Off topic; you said you will be coming to KL and that you want you see the Eye on Malaysia … You are stopping by at the KL city or flying across Malaysia?

Just wondering ’cause the Eye of Malaysia is situated at Lake Titiwangsa and you gotta get a cab there. Doubt you can see it from above the skies.

  9. iskoo Says:

mukhang napaka simple ng buhay dyan, palang walang pressure sa buhay nila, unlike dito sa metropolis naku di pwede patumpik tumpik kundi di ka kakain. sarap ng pwesto ng bata sa huling picture.

  10. Toe Says:

Oh, great pictures again Ferdz! The photos of those children are priceless. Oh, I wonder why they have almond eyes. My eyes are like that.

  11. Ray Says:

Whoah.. This is the first time I see a commenting textbox at the sidebar. hehe

The environment looks really relaxing.. green trees, cool weather.. wish I could go there..

Uso pala sa mga little girls diyan yung nakapantalon no.. siguro dala na rin ng temperature.

“A constant human companion. A dog guarding the firewoods.” –> love these sentences. Buti di ka kinagat nung aso! :p

Nice pictures. This place must be cold at nigh being high in the mountains. The firewood - is it just for cooking or for heating at night ? Interesting :)

My first didn’t go through. If it did, pls ignore it :)

naranasan ko dati yang pagbabayo ng palay… wheew

  19. niceheart Says:

The third picture brings back childhood memories. We used to do that too. And also skipping rope. If what you said is true that kids in Manila don’t play outside anymore, that is just sad.

  20. dodong flores Says:

This is the adventure I’d been looking for…
And, you’re right. Most kids now (at least in the urban areas) are playing solitary in front of the computers than bonding with other kids. This is why I agree with you to be refreshed seeing kids playing Chinese garter, tumbang preso, etc.
Hey, I’d been playing tumbang preso when I was a kid. I hope my kids will be able to experience what I had experience before. But **sigh** time is changing so fast…

  21. rhodora Says:

Lovely photos… that one with a woman pounding rice refreshes childhood memories. I grew up in a rural setting and rice pounding was like a village affair then. Parang bayanihan ba. It would start very early (madilim pa) and end till dusk. Wala pa kasi masyadong mga ricemills noon, and most farmers couldn’t afford the fees.

  22. poypips Says:

You perfectly grab with your camera how simple life that community has galing.Yes 3x difinitely bring back the memories of my childhood in the province.saka yung aso ng kapitbahay namin bantay yung pangalan kakulay ng aso in the pix :) :) :)

  23. rayts Says:
