Coron: Tranquil Barracuda Lake
There is another lake in Coron, Palawan aside from Kayangan Lake that is worthy a visit. With just a few minutes boat ride from Kayangan, you’ll soon find yourself at the entrance of Barracuda Lake. There is an entrance fee of 75 pesos per person to access the lake.
Unlike Kayangan Lake, there is only little space to navigate the entrance. Everything are lime stones. So to access the lake you have to do a short climb up and down the treacherous and sharp lime stone rocks.
The pathway to the lake is also very small only allowing a few people to hang around in the area. Not much view if you stay there. Better take a swim if you plan to see the whole vista of the lake. If you are brave enough, you can climb the lime stones on the side to have a wider view of the lake.
I did climb on the lime stone on the side which offers a better view from the passage ways. A bit tricky climb but manageable. The blue water from there is real tranquil. Also snorkeled for a time at the lake. The water in Kayangan Lake is much clearer but I think this is deeper up to 40meters. Some divers actually go down to lake floor below to see the cave on the north side wall of the lake. There’s a few resident barracudas living there, they said, that’s why they called named the lake from these creatures.

Another great shots Ferdz although I must admit the title of your post set me off coz i know barracuda as a predatory fish. What a nice way to name a very tranquil lake.

sayang, when we went there sa oa, we weren’t able to go here kasi the other teammembers dreaded the climb. kungsabagay, mahirap nga rin naman with the tripods and heavy lenses. anyway, thanks for sharing bro wulf! as usual, great “as-if-i-was-there” captures

may entrance fee na pala but i am in favor to that if they use it for maintenance. astig ng pagka trnaquil ng tubig. lake sya pero may opening sya sa dagat. tubig alat ba yung lake na yan?

When I got there and saw the steep climb, I almost backed out because I don’t trust my feet for climbing. But I wanted to maximize the trip and see the lake for myself so I took my chances. hehe. I love your photos. I wasn’t able to take a decent photo of this lake.

Haha. Yeah Oman, just the word barracuda can send shivers, but that’s how the lake was named because of the small and thin resident barracudas there.
Naku Og, I was actually fearful for my gears more when I was climbing the lime stones. Pinahawak ko na lang sa mga kasama ko and took it when I got up.
Most of the sites there have entrance fees Dom. Personally I think it’s ok since the money goes to the Tagbanuas who are taking care of this place. he water is brackish, a combination of salt and fresh water.
Good thing you took a chance Liz, it has a nice scenery as well. Thank you very much for the complement.
We do have lots to be proud of Photocache.
Hehehe. Mapaglarong isip Ellen.
Thanks Tina, nice to see you back here. Do visit again pag di ka busy.
Inviting talaga yung place Eric, although kailangan din ng ingat since the rocks are tracherous and the lake deep.

[...] We found ourselves soon in an enclosed lime stone which they called a hidden lagoon. The lime stone walls there looks impressive but that’s most of it. Our boat only just went around the place which isn’t actually very big and there’s no land there to dock or step on. Honestly I found it not that impressive as our Kayangan or Barracuda Lake. [...]

sa takot kong mahulog at malubog sa tubig ang camera ko, iniwan ko mga gamit ko sa bangka at nag-enjoy na lang sa paglangoy. ayun wala akong uwing mga kuha sa barracuda. but this is one of my favorite sights sa Coron. galing ng mga shots…parang postcards!
