The Papaya River

he sound of gushing water could be heard from a distance. Everyone was quite excited to take a dip at its water. We have heard from the other guys who had been able to climb Mt. Mariveles, that the river is one of the most enjoyable part of the climb. I think it was around 45 minutes until we reached the river itself. Before the actual river, there is a stream which is also a source of water. It is beside here where we left our packs and others already took their lunch. Passing by the stream, a very short walk is the Papaya River itself.

Since Eds and I weren't hungry yet, we decided to head to the River and take some pictures. The Chicharon Boys, along with Leonard were already there having their lunch. I was also wondering how it got its name since there weren't any Papaya Tree in the vicinity. The river was long and shallow. The first Tier has a small waterfall but the gushing water flows quite strong. Shortly, Ruwen arrived and was already enjoying the pool. Later, we joined up with them. As soon as I dipped into the pool, I was shaking from the cold. Well I went under the water to get myself all wet and after a while I got used to the cold. Also, having your back facing the waterfalls gives a satisfying massage. Going up the higher tier of the river rewards you with another small waterfall with very clear shallow water. What is also fun in this river is that you can lie down among shallow waters and just let the currents flow while you look at the beams of sunlight penetrating the leaves of the trees, lots of butterflies and colored dragonflies playing around the area too.

We had our lunch after an hour of enjoying the river. I took a bite on my Pita Bread, and was satisfied with its taste. Later we had to refill our water for cooking and the trail back. Sir Arin lent his Mini-water-purifying-pump. It's the first time I have seen such device and thought that I should get one in the future because it'll useful for future explorations. There is a hose where you'll just place under the water and start-pumping, you'll have an instant "Mineral Water". After everyone has rested, and prepared it was time for the so called "difficult" part of the trail, the hike up to the ridge.
