Batanes: Imnajbu rugged country
I am currently arranging and archiving all of my photos from present backwards. I’m a bit of a sloth when it comes to organizing my digital files but it seems I need to systematize my work flow from now on. Anyways, with all these organizing, I realized I haven’t posted a lot of my materials yet. Will be posting some left over series from my most recent visit to Batanes for my local destination in between posts from Vietnam and China. First up is one the rugged beauty of Batanes, Imnajbu country.
Imnajbu is found 10 nautical kilometers from the provincial capital of Basco. With only a population of more than a hundred, excluding cows of course, it is considered as the smallest barangay, not only in the municipality of Uyugan, Batanes but in the whole Philippines.
The roadside hill with the scenic view of the large open shore and dramatic rock formation has been sensationalized in a 1991 local movie adaptation of “Wuthering Heights” entitled “Hihintatyin kita sa Langit.” Batanes was a perfect setting for this Carlos Siguion-Reyna film with a powerhouse cast of Richard Gomez, Dawn Zulueta, Michael De Mesa, Jackie Lou Blanco and Eric Quizon.
I remember the first time we went here, we stayed a while on this windswept hill. Just allowing the wind to blow our heads off while we enjoy the view of the wide open shores with the backdrop of the dramatic rock formations along the road. Nothing has changed much.
Batanes, undoubtedly still has the most scenic coastal road in the country, and a quick turn from this point on the road will open a stunning vista of the sea with the road stretching beyond it. That is what’s so great about Batanes, you seem to be walking inside a scenic postcard wherever you go.

Majestic seaside views. I am fascinated by that road curved into the rock hill, a very unique sight.

I’m in love with Batanes, that’s why I’m saving up to come and see the place. When I first saw your photos in flickr, I thought it’s somewhere abroad. I’m surprised to know it’s in the Philippines.

Pareho pala tayo eh. Kupad ko din i organize digital files ko. Well, backup ko muna sila as is. Slowly I fix them, then another backup para dalawang files. Kaya tuloy I still am posting some of the pics I took from as far back as two years ago.
I wont get tired of seeing Batanes through your lens. Magnificent.

Thanks Rayts! With Seair adding to the frequency of flight to Basco, mas madami ng makakapunta dun.
