A day in SG 02: Thian Hock Keng and heritage town
Thian Hock Keng Temple and surrounding buildings
Moving along from the Sri Miriamman Temple I headed towards Cross St. where I would take a right turn towards the Thian Hock Keng Temple. It was only 5 minutes to 10 minutes walk and on your right along Telok Ayer St. you’ll find the temple passing by a small oasis park. The temple is a small typical Taoist Temple, said to be built by Seamen in 1821 for safe passage. The material construction of the temple boast of international origins, with ironwork from Scotland, tiles from England and the Netherlands, and towering granite pillars entwined with dragons from China. There was a small tour group there with a mixture of foreign tourist from Europe and some Koreans as well.
Being homeless in Singapore
After taking some pics, I went back to Cross St. and headed to the other end of the street where I could find the China Heritage Town Center. On the way there, I never thought that I’ll see a homeless woman on the streets. Despite Singapore’s modern standards of living high, I guess we could never really eliminate some signs of poverty. I’m just wondering where the government would bring these kinds of people in their small country.
China Heritage Town structures
After a few minutes walk, taking a left turn from the main Tong Sen Bridge Road, I found the said China Heritage Town Center, nothing much to see there except for some colorful rows of houses or establishments. The place may probably look better at night when it is busy with all the hawker stalls and tables.
A slim yellow condo building
Heading on to the nearby MRT station, I was amused to see this huge rectangular yellow building standing out. It seemed to look like a condominium with some laundry hanging on its numerous windows. I wondered how it would be like living there. Place looks so slim and crammed. I crossed the street after taking a shot at it and took the MRT to Little India.

it’s called HDB flats here..
it’s a cheap style of living in SG
and imagine the lack of space in singapore
flats has to be built soaring on the sky and
people need to hang clothes outside with bamboo pole
