In the years I have been practicing photography, I have grown to consider each photograph captured as a moment frozen in time, where the landscape of space is given form by the luminance of light. The act of catching this moment is a serendipitous dance between a scenery and the eye of the photographer. I have always pursued most of my photography as an enjoyable way to document a travel. But I decided to elevate this further and create a photographer’s portfolio of my own. Thus LightScape: Ferdz Decena Photography is born.
I never thought that creating your own portfolio can be a challenging feat. It’s easy to bombard people with a number of images that seems great to look at. But choosing just a few pieces that can somehow define your style of photography is another thing. A set of photos that when viewed can easily be recognized as yours. It took quite an introspection and pleasing the most meticulous critic – myself. I’m never really satisfied, but as my good friend Oggie advised, I have to start something and just change things as I go along. It’s a work in progress.
I’m not sure where my venture in photography will take me but I intend to pursue it with the same joy as I started and sharpen my skills along the way. Still holding by the principles of capturing a scene in the most natural light as possible (Yep, no over-processing and HDR for me in the future). In the age where anyone can just pick up a camera and start shooting, it’s a challenge to somehow stand out from the crowd. It sounds a bit cliche to say this but I have always believed that if you are really passionate at what you are doing, it shows in your work.
LightScape: Ferdz Decena Photography is now online at www.lightscape.net. I hope you pay a visit. I have also uploaded the photographs presented at Living by Water exhibit for those who missed it or are not able to visit the exhibition.
