Traveling is something that many of us would like to do more of, but sadly, can’t afford to do. If you are a student, one of your many goals may be to see as much of the world as possible, but when you have the commitment of a college degree to uphold, it can be difficult to take advantage of the best travel deals. Thankfully, there are many ways to travel whilst in college, so you shouldn’t let your student status hold you back from your adventures. We’ve put together some great ideas for traveling more on a student budget.

Study Online

When you move your college degree online, you will gain the freedom to take your work around the world with you. Although there may be certain dates that you will need to be back in the U.S. when studying for your masters in social work online, for the most part you will be able to take your work anywhere that you like, as long as you get it done on time and stay on top of it! Because of this, there’s no need to worry about missing out on cheap travel deals. You could even go on the backpacking trip of a lifetime, all whilst studying for your degree online.

Student Exchange Programs

Whilst studying for your online social work masters, you may get an opportunity to study abroad. This can be a great opportunity to see how your chosen professional field or industry is different overseas. Many student exchange programs will allow you to live and study in another country for a term or even a full year, which can be an excellent way to immerse yourself in a new culture. And, depending on where you study, this could be a great opportunity for more travel. For example, if you complete a student exchange program in Europe, you can find cheap flights, trains and ferries to visit other European countries, as long as you have the right visa.

Overseas Volunteering

Although you will need to pay for your flights, accommodation, food and any additional personal travel and activities that you take part in, overseas volunteering programs for students and young people can be one of the best ways to travel on a student budget. And, this type of travel, where you volunteer your time to help those in need overseas, can also look amazing on your resume as a graduate. It can also help you to find a job in the future!

Travel at Home

As a student, getting flights overseas can be expensive, so why not make plans to visit other U.S. states and bordering countries? When you can cross the border by rail, car, or even on foot, this is much cheaper than flying, and a great way to see other countries as a student, without spending too much money.
