Last time I went to Thailand, I had to fly through Kuala Lumpur. Not that there were no direct flights available at that time. It just so happen I had an AirAsia KL ticket at that time but wanted to travel to Thailand instead. If there was a Thailand flight then, I would have rebooked directly. Good thing AirAsia Philippines recently launched its direct flight to Bangkok from Manila. Now truly establishing as the only airline group that fly direct to all ten ASEAN countries.

A Davao Overnight via AirAsia Philippines

So, after a few months since the new airbus landed in Clark last year 2011, AirAsia Philippines finally took to the sky and painted it red last March 28, 2012. Another milestone for AirAsia as the Philippines-branded airbus A320s with an all-Filipino Crew inaugurated its Kalibo and Davao flights. At Clark International Airport, ceremonies were held to mark the occasion with the presence of key persons like Ms Maan Hontiveros and the AirAsia guy himself, Mr Tony Fernandes. Ironwulf.net was there to witness the occasion and join in on their inaugural flight to Davao.

So you wanna be a pilot? Sometime when I was growing up, I had that dream of becoming a pilot (okay, next to being an astronaut). I mean who wouldn’t? You can fly across the globe and I heard the pay was good too. But of course reality took stride and I had gone to the creative work instead, but no regrets there. There’s always that bit of curiosity on what’s it’s like to be a pilot. Does one need a brilliant handling of math (since I’m bad at math) to easily fly? Our visit to AirAsia Academy sheds some light what AirAsia’s staff and crew go through before actually going inflight.

“We Plan to have AirAsia in every ASEAN country” says Zaman Ahmad,the Regional Head of Customer Experience of AirAsia in Malaysia during a short talk in their office. I was sitting on a bean bag surrounded by a few stuffed angry bird dolls and some tall stools for sitting. The meeting room was definitely a ground where playful imagination and ideas can run around. Must be why AirAsia had been successful as a low-cost carrier when it started – they were having fun doing it.
