One which has been making a buzz among backpackers and adventure travelers these recent years is the Mahabang Buhangin Beach (Long Sand Beach) in the Calaguas Group of Islands in Camarines Norte. Curious eyes stare as we step down the motorcycle. Kids who were playing around suddenly stopped and proceeded in caution to look who came. Fishermen by the shore securing their boat gave a quick glance. It seems the people here at Lele Beach in Culion Island don’t to see many visitors donning cameras and tripods that often. Thanks to our guide Hermie, there was a familiar face they can get comfortable with. He informed the small community that we’ll be hanging around their beach for the sunset.

Coron Island Hopping: A Splendid Way to Enjoy the Sun, Sea and Sights

Coron Palawan can speak for itself in terms of its natural beauty. I’ve seen the wonders of Halong Bay, while I admired its thousands of karst wonder, it can’t really compare to how clear and spectacular our Palawan turquoise waters is. The best way to see the islands which is through day tours offered in town. Like El Nido, Coron have also grouped the sites to several island tours. We’re doing the Coron Island Hopping tour (offered by Coron EcoLodge) and has just visited Kayangan Lake. The only need in these tours is a comfortable swimwear (expect to be wet throughout), an open sense of wonder and fun.

Postcards | The Twilight Glow at Dolarog Beach El Nido

And just when you thought people have covered most of El Nido beaches, here’s another one to add to the many still left to be discovered (or written about). Las Cabanas is not the last resort found in Marimegmeg Beach south of El Nido Town. Further down after the bend, past at least 100 meters from Depeldet Island is a rough coral sand white beach called Dolarog Beach. It faces the towering Pinagbuyutan Island and is home to one of El Nido’s beautiful sunset spot.

Wide-Eyed Again at White Island Camiguin

Pure sands, sun, sea and a whole lotta fun is what one can expect from this almost unadulterated White Island in Camiguin. At first I wasn’t really excited to return to this island but once there, the only thing to do is enjoy. Best visited at low-tide when more sand would emerge and the waves would shape the island like a horse shoe seen from the sky. The high tide however gives an exciting opportunity to traverse the shallow sand bridge to both edges.

Return to Kota Kinabalu and Tunku Abdul Rahman Park

I remember how excited I was almost 8 years ago when I was finally going out of the country to travel for the first time. Kota Kinabalu was the first stamp on my newly acquired passport and I finally got to experience riding an airplane via AirAsia. It was so memorable as we climbed Mount Kinabalu then,enjoyed some islands and nature parks. A similar kind of excitement was brewing when I joined Zest Air’s inaugural flight to Kota Kinabalu last weekend. There was no climbing this time but I still recall the cold air and the somewhat hangover-state-of-mind while climbing the summit of Mt Kinabalu when I saw the mountain through my plane window. The rain-cloud draped city looks back like a familiar friend but noticeable is the aging state and a few constructions to perk up the city skyline. Off coast, the islands of Tunku Abdhul Rahman Park still looks pristine. I immediately recognized Manukan Island there and remembered our fun beach bumming and snorkeling excusion. Ah yes, its nice to see you again Kota Kinabalu.

The Balay Cuyonon Museum and the Mangroves of Sibaltan Beach El Nido

There’s a curious little icon on the map of an old fort. It meant that there’s a historical site, sitting on the north eastern side of El Nido, just right smack in the town of Sibaltan. I would ask some people in El Nido town but not many people know about the significance except my landlord where I’m staying. “There’s a Balay Cuyonon Museum there you should see. It tells all about the history of the place”. When we got settled in Sibaltan’s Guard House, our caretaker, Bulanday led us to the grounds of the museum situated by the beach.
