Noa Noa Island Taytay Palawan: 11-Days on a Private Island Estate

I’ve always wondered how it’s like to live in a small island. Of course I imagined there would be palm trees, a nice beach, hammocks, refreshing drinks, native huts and endless view of the ocean. But when I took a project for one of the private islands in Taytay Palawan named Noa Noa Island, I never expected to be staying about 11-days in this luxurious island where I was the only guest while working on a project. It was one of my memorable escapes to a not-so-known island surrounded by one of the most astounding marine sanctuary I’ve ever swam on.

Corregidor Island | The Malinta Tunnel Laterals Traverse

Corregidor Island is a fascinating destination close to Manila. It’s replete with history in all corners, magnificent ruins as testament to the island’s former grandeur and nature that thrives. I’ve talked about Corregidor Island before as our macabre version of an ancient ruin (like the Angkor Wat) but this time we go deeper in the dark recesses of Malinta Tunnel and learn the story hidden in its pitch-black environs. With our friends from Columbia Sportswear Philippines leading the way to test the cool factor of their Omni-Freeze Zero technology, I found myself venturing to the island again to discover more.

Sprucing Up Lagen Island El Nido

The exclusive Lagen Island managed by El Nido Resorts is the largest of their resort islands boasting more nature cover than their resort facilities. It’s also home to an important archeological site, the Leta-leta Cave, a Stone Age era burial site where Robert Fox discovered the “Yawning Jar” in 1965. More famous for its luxury accommodation amidst its stunning karst formation and scenic shallow lagoon in an enclosed cove, Lagen Island recently added a few amenities and facilities to keep itself in-step with its recently opened sister resort, Pangulasian Island.

Setting Foot at Pangulasian Island El Nido: An Eco-Luxury Island Getaway

I must say, the idea of El Nido being expensive come from the popularity of the El Nido Resort Islands of Miniloc and Lagen in Bacuit Bay. While a lot of people lately know that there are cheaper alternative to the destination already, there is a good reason why their resorts cost either an arm or a leg (or both). El Nido Resorts have set a good standard in terms of quality resorts hand in hand with good eco-tourism initiatives on their managed islands. They have upped the game again when they opened their new resort, Pangulasian Island late last year. Their most expensive resort yet.

Postcards | The Twilight Glow at Dolarog Beach El Nido

And just when you thought people have covered most of El Nido beaches, here’s another one to add to the many still left to be discovered (or written about). Las Cabanas is not the last resort found in Marimegmeg Beach south of El Nido Town. Further down after the bend, past at least 100 meters from Depeldet Island is a rough coral sand white beach called Dolarog Beach. It faces the towering Pinagbuyutan Island and is home to one of El Nido’s beautiful sunset spot.

Wide-Eyed Again at White Island Camiguin

Pure sands, sun, sea and a whole lotta fun is what one can expect from this almost unadulterated White Island in Camiguin. At first I wasn’t really excited to return to this island but once there, the only thing to do is enjoy. Best visited at low-tide when more sand would emerge and the waves would shape the island like a horse shoe seen from the sky. The high tide however gives an exciting opportunity to traverse the shallow sand bridge to both edges.

Going Underwater at the Camiguin Sunken Cemetery

“Why would I want to do that?!” Chele, one of our comical and lively companion in Camiguin exclaimed with a ghastly expression on her face when I broached the idea of snorkeling at the Camiguin Sunken Cemetery. I couldn’t blame her since the thought of venturing in the cemetery at daylight already creeps some people out, what more on the deep-sea water. But curiosity got the better of me and I’m already have a firm resolve that I would snorkel here one way or another.
