One thing I like in the business of Freelancing is you get to meet a lot interesting people and personalities. You learn more on how to cope and adjust to all sorts of people.

Well fortunately I met (online that is) a good client from Texas, who’s a creative director in one of the Design agencies there. Well I asked some advise from him regarding a problem with this other client of mine who refuse to release my paycheck after a month of delivery. Well aside from having a business advise there’s also a hint of advise I got from people in general. Well I like this part of the conversation, kinda rings a lot on me:

mrangelod: so can you get more work from them?
ferdz02: Well every client is important
ferdz02: hmmm I think so
mrangelod: sure, but you have to measure how much you can get out of them
mrangelod: and if they mean a lot of money to you over the next 1-2 years… then don’t do anything to spoil the relationship
ferdz02: yeah I think
mrangelod: on the other hand,
mrangelod: if the client is a risk to you
mrangelod: if you think they don’t respect yyou
mrangelod: and will end up taking advantage of you
mrangelod: then, get rid of them.
mrangelod: really.
mrangelod: they are NOT worth it
mrangelod: you’ll spend more time pleasing them and
mrangelod: you won’t get paid for that time
mrangelod: they have to respect you

Well it not applies to clients only but people in general as well. Measuring their advantages and disadvanteges. Equality I mean.

He not only was very helpful in giving advise on how to make a full-proof contract and other legal details to include on it. It was a very enlightening conversation.
