The exclusive Lagen Island managed by El Nido Resorts is the largest of their resort islands boasting more nature cover than their resort facilities. It’s also home to an important archeological site, the Leta-leta Cave, a Stone Age era burial site where Robert Fox discovered the “Yawning Jar” in 1965. More famous for its luxury accommodation amidst its stunning karst formation and scenic shallow lagoon in an enclosed cove, Lagen Island recently added a few amenities and facilities to keep itself in-step with its recently opened sister resort, Pangulasian Island.

New Additions at Lagen Island

No doubt, as the 2nd oldest of the El Nido Resorts, Lagen Island is showing a bit of its age, noticeably on the boardwalk and cottages. The management knows that and that they did some renovations and additions that they had to close down the island resort for at least a month the last quarter of 2012 to do some improvement. Now they have added a gym for the fitness buffs, a kids center to keep the young ones occupied while the adults play, a library for bookworms and a dedicated spa with rooms for couples and singles.

Keeping the Tranquility

Aside from those additions, there were no drastic changes in the resort. It maintained its beautiful cove with scenic stilt cottages on water hugging the shallow lagoon. I love the cool breeze coming in which I was told comes all year round. Lagen Island has a huge pool visitors can enjoy if they don’t want swimming at the lake. For me, I guess the main character of this island is its quiet luxury and nature, since unlike it’s sibling Miniloc Island, Lagen doesn’t get very much boat traffic. There’s a nature trail replete with birds early morning and late afternoon, macaques still roam the island freely and of course the rich marine life surrounding the island. It’s the perfect place to wind down and get close to nature coupled with some pampering from the resort.
