Making the Most Out of Your Layover

Traveling is fun. Period. No questions asked. But the worst thing about traveling is the actual traveling part. We all want to just hurry up and be in our nice plush hotel room, hanging out by the beach with a beautifully decorated cocktail in hand, or enjoying our sport or leisure activity of choice already! If we all had to eliminate one part of traveling, it would be the ‘getting there’ part.

Of course our above scenario is put on hold until someone can invent a time machine, so until then, we got to make the best of every minute of our travels. One of the most boring and annoying occasions while traveling are those dreaded layovers. What are you supposed to do with eight hours in an airport? Instead of making these hours pass by at snails speed, there are plenty of ways to entertain yourself.

Let Corporate Traveller give some great advice. First you could try dining at one of the restaurants at the airport. Usually there is at least one decent place, if not multiple fine dining options depending on what airport you are at. Stuff that belly and feel no regrets, because after your meal, you will get plenty of exercise walking around the airport and doing some shopping.

Stock up on those items that are duty-free and finally get those souvenirs that you probably forgot about or will forget about. You have plenty of time and plenty of choices, and this could potentially keep you occupied for hours.

If you still have plenty of time to kill and just want to sit back down, but aren’t hungry again yet, then grab a few drinks with your fellow layover friend that’s probably already sat at the bar. Kick back a few and see if your new friend would fancy a walk around in the airport lounges for some people watching.

There are plenty of activities to keep yourself busy while at an airport, so don’t make your layover the miserable part of your trip, but a part of your trip that makes for a good story along with those from your holiday. Happy traveling!
