Binondo Church

Binondo is a really amusing place in this part of Manila. I enjoy the smell, the structures and especially the food. The old 16th century Binondo Church still retains its old stone walls. The interiors looks more grand than most churches and the altar seems similar to those in European design. Did you know the first Philippine saint, Lorenzo Ruiz, started here as an altar boy? I certainly didn’t. Hmmm… this would be a very interesting church to take picture of for Simbang Gabi.

Heading further down China Town led by our hungry stomach, passing by crytsal vendors, spices and hopia stores and turning right at a bridge is the so called “Estero”, somewhat similar to the Hawker Style stalls in Singapore. Lots of choices in food and the price is just right.

Each small dish cost around 80 pesos each. We had a Sezchuan Fish Fillet and a Beef and Mushroom with an added Broccoli by request. Food is really good and the volume is enough to satisfy you.

And a short walk from the Estero going to T. Alonzo you’ll find Panciteria Lindo, famous for its pancit (of course) and also their Siphon-Brewed Coffee. I’m not much of a coffee drinker, but seeing the set up is similar to a chemistry lab, you’ll be curious on how this coffee would taste. And for 40 pesos, this smooth drink is very good. The ambiance is here is not Starbucks though, as it is filled with old folks who seem to hang out here regularly. Still the place is worth checking out.

There’s still a lot to check out here in Binondo. Maybe sometime I can pass by here again, even just to eat. 😀
