Entering the village of Cambulo

It was already mid-afternoon when we we reached the riverside village of Cambulo. We saw the dominant yellow complex of the village which is the school. We were welcomed by the local children of the village who seemed excited upon our arrival.

We headed straight to the school where all the books and school supplies are already placed and a bunch of kids curiously looking at what we brought. We settled ourselves first on our assigned places within the village. Some stayed in lodges others have their tents.

An hour later we were set to start the program. We were supposed to have the program at the open field in front of the school but since the rain continued on, we crammed ourselves in one of the only two classrooms of the school.

Instrumental Presentation

After proper introductions and all, we were surprised that they prepared some presentations for us. First, the local village kids sang a song for us about the village in english. They are quite good in their english accent, probably because foreign missionaries frequent the place. They sang great with some funny sharp notes popping out now and then from one of the kids. Amusing.

Musical performance using native instruments

Then the kids did their native dance, imitating motions of birds flying over rice fields. Then the teachers and after, the group were pulled in into the dance. After which, the kids also did an instrumental number using native instruments. Impressive sounds. There’s this kid on the percussion whose really very good.

The programs ended before twilight. Teary eyed, Ms Nini, the main organizer of the event, ended with happy words of gratitude to all the sponsors and people who helped them make this outreach possible. We ourselves as well are glad to be able to give what little we can to this small remote village.
