What does Buddha do on his spare time? He surfs! Well that’s what the owners of Buddha’s Surf Resort in Siargao thinks. It’s just amusing to see a figure of Buddha lifting a surfboard when I arrived at the resort. Located right smack between the famous Cloud 9 surf spot and the bustling General Luna, Buddha’s Surf Resort is one of the pioneer establishment in Siargao that has long catered to visitors of the island.

Buddha’s Surf Resort

It wasn’t hard to find Buddha’s Surf Resort. In fact, vans from the airport knows the place and dropped me off at their doorstep. I like the native and open air feel of the resort. Wooden picket fences, lots of vegetation and a wide open reception gave me a good vibe of the place. I slipped off my foot wear as I went up the restaurant area which also doubles as the reception. I was warmly welcomed by the staff and met the manager Katy who showed me my room.

Roomy and Relaxed

Buddha’s Surf Resort have seven rooms found at the inner section of the resort, away from the sound of road traffic. There’s a wide open green garden with hammocks and a slackline. I have a superior room at the second floor. There’s balcony with lounge chairs overlooking the garden. Clothes line and a surfboard rack. Inside is a minimalist style room which I like. The wooden furniture is elegant enough and a few pieces of ornaments. Room is very spacious, there’s a walk-in closet and a large bathroom. Internet signal reaches the room. Cable/satellite TV wasn’t working at that time but in-demand movies via USB or hard drive is available.

Tours and Entertainment

It was easy to get habal-habal transpo in front of the resort. Staff even assisted. They can also assist on booking tours around the island. I like the time-and-tide chart which they update regularly at the restaurant wall which is quite useful for surfers or even visit at the Mapupungko Rock Pool.

I came there in a weekday evening where there was a scheduled acoustic night at the second floor of the restaurant. Enjoyed a night of acoustic music. I think the venue is quite popular as the place filled up as the night got deeper.

Good Restaurant

Decided to had dinner at the restaurant and ordered their Buddha’s Surf Burger. It was big which is good for the price. There’s some wedge potatoes and coleslaw on the side. It looks good as it taste, thick burger patty and good flavor. Very filling. I also enjoyed the breakfast and quite good coffee. The bacon were as crisp as I wanted it to be.

Daily Yoga

If there’s one destination in the country where yoga community is growing, Siargao it is. Surfing and yoga compliments each other. One reason why I also like Buddha’s Surf Resort is they have daily yoga available. It’s a good way to sustain my practice. They have a very good teacher in Rhel who gave us a lovely sequence that morning.

Cool and Chill Vibe

Only stayed here a night but I would have stayed longer if I don’t have to leave for Bucas Grande sooner. I love the vibe of the place. Easy and relaxed. And did I mention the friendly doberman Reef? Quite a friendly dog that can be intimidating at first because of his size but will look out for you really. His presence add a playful stay here which I’m sure an added incentive to dog lovers.
