Many destinations offer all-terrain vehicle (ATV) rides as an added attraction and activity. However, not all ATV adventures are equal. What makes an ATV ride exciting for me? The scenery, the route, and how rough the trail is. Besides the Mt. Mayon Black Lava Wall ATV Ride, the Bohol Chocolate Hills ATV Adventure ticks all the right boxes for a different view of the unique landscape of the Chocolate Hills.

The usual way to enjoy the Chocolate Hills is to climb up the tourist viewpoint in Carmen, Bohol. Since I was with my siblings who were in Bohol for the first time, I thought we should do something different from the usual sightseeing. Everyone was eager for an adrenaline rush, so we decided to do the Chocolate Hills ATV Adventure.

Our tour agent recommended Graham ATV and Bugcar Rental Services. They offered several packages and options for the ride, including buggies aside from the ATVs.

We chose Package A, roughly a one-hour ride with a stop at Bud Agta Viewpoint for PHP 1,100 per person. There’s also Package B, a two-hour ride that goes much further for PHP 2,200.

Fun Muddy Countryside Ride

We secured our ATVs and guide, then revved our engines to start our ride. It was a perfect day to ride: a little cloudy with some drizzles, so it wasn’t too hot. There were occasional rains throughout the day, creating puddles and a muddy trail, adding to the excitement.

The ride mainly traversed agricultural land with plenty of rough and unpaved roads and puddles. Our guide would occasionally lead us through puddles for a splash of adrenaline. We also stopped at scenic points for photos and videos. The guides are well-trained to take touristy photos for social media posting.

Bud Agta Viewpoint

It was exciting to see the Chocolate Hills up close and even ride around them. Our endpoint was a viewpoint called Bud Agta, which might be the name of the hill. Unlike the tourist viewpoint, this viewpoint had no concrete structures. The stairs and platform were mostly made of wood.

There were several platforms to view the Chocolate Hills. The view here offers vast plains and Chocolate Hills much closer to the horizon.

The Bohol Chocolate Hills ATV Adventure provides an exhilarating alternative to view and experience this unique protected landscape. If you plan on doing this activity yourself, here are a few tips:

  • Wear clothes you don’t mind getting drenched or dirty.
  • If you do mind getting dirty, ponchos are available for purchase.
  • Bring only what you need.
  • If you need to bring other items, secure them in a dry bag.
  • There are vendors at Bud Agta selling snacks and buko juice.
