A one hour ferry ride from Dapa, Siargao to Socorro Port in a jam-packed boat. A half-hour tricycle ride cutting through the bucolic landscape of Bucas Grande. Then a thrilling half hour boat ride from Barangay Sta Cruz on a small boat to Sohoton Bay. A transit that slowly swelled my excitement for visiting this emerging gem of a destination in Surigao del Norte. And my abode is at Sohoton Bay Resort. My eyes were fixated among the mid-rise karst formations on this side of the island as our boat rode close by. Shortly we entered a wide-open cove where I could make out a small strip of beach. It was high-tide and the waves were lapping over a large portion of the beach. As we drew closer, I could see a native-roof structure almost concealed by the dense vegetation in the area. The water became shallower and clearer emerald. Finally we’re at Sohoton Bay Resort.

To meet the demand for the ever increasing number of tourist looking for accommodations at Sohoton Cove, the family-run Sohoton Bay Resort was established last June 2016. The lodgings were designed to look native. The five available rooms may look basic but they can accommodate a large groups. The family room can accommodate 10 persons while the other four dormitory type rooms can house 12 persons. All rooms are airconditioned, well-kept and have their own private toilet and bath.

The large common open area serves as the dining and function hall with tables and chairs. A karaoke facility is available for those who wants to belt their hearts out or used as audio and visual tools for events. I do like the wooden tables and chairs fronting the beach. A good place to read and just gaze at the sea. Sohoton Bay Resort also boast a stable and fast internet connection which some resorts in the area lacks. Meals were tasty home comfort food freshly prepared.

Staying here at Sohoton Bay Resort, the scenery reminds me a lot of being in Palawan with the surrounding karst formations, emerald clear waters. At low tide, the white powdery sands are unveiled inviting for a serene walk and a dip. The resort doesn’t pamper you with lavishness but lets you enjoy nature’s embrace with its simplicity. And one of the key advantage of staying here is its close proximity to Sohoton Cove and nearby attractions.
